First Strength To Lead Community Day – Thank You Weston!
Last Saturday, we held our first Community Day at our pop-up sports facility at Weston Park Baptist Church, 1871 Weston Rd.
With more than 100 participants in events ranging from basketball training organised by MLSE Foundation to weight lifting sessions led by Jonny Reps, the event brought neighbours, families, and young people together through sports and family fun.
Just like in all our programming, the event had lots to offer in addition to sports; with delicious barbecue provided by the Weston Frontlines centre, live music by community performers, and special giveaways and prizes organised by Weston Park Baptist Church and Strength to Lead, there really was something for everyone.
We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many of the incredible people to whom we’ve committed ourselves in Weston, and to see the positive impact which our Court Builders site at 1871 Weston Road is already having.
Special thanks go out to all our partner organisations – MLSE Foundation, Castlepoint Numa, Weston Frontlines Centre, Weston Park Baptist Church, and Jonny Reps Gym – for helping to bring this event to life. Without their contributions, and the hard work of the truly special people who work for them, we couldn’t have held nearly as unique an event. Thank you as well to Mayor Olivia Chow for taking the time to attend, and to immerse herself in the incredible community of people who call Weston their home.
With the success of this event, we are more convinced than ever that there is more to do. Now that we’ve seen how new sports courts and activities can bring people together, we want to spread that positivity further.
This really is just the beginning – we hope to see you all at our upcoming 3v3 Basketball Tournament on August 29th. In any case, keep your eyes peeled and watch this space, there are many more exciting events and updates to come!
